Stolen bait bike leads to SWAT situation at local home

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Detectives with the Grand Junction Police Department on Monday morning were alerted after one of its bait bikes was stolen.

The bike was traced back to an address in the 1300 block of Elm Avenue, right down the street from Colorado Mesa University.

Officials said a SWAT team from the Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Sheriff's Office was brought to the scene due to the criminal history of some of the suspects involved. Neighbors were asked to shelter in place.

Police used to tear gas in order to get people out of the home, but officials said no one was inside. the shelter-in-place order was lifted.

Authorities were still looking for Robert Dattage, 44, who is wanted on several charges related to the theft. Police did not immediately release a description or picture of the suspect.
