GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The races for Mesa County Treasurer and Clerk and Recorder each have two candidates running for the Republican nomination.
Candidates for County Commissioner, Sherriff, Assessor, and Coroner are all running unopposed.
Bobbie Gross and Tina Peters are running for the Republican nomination for Clerk and Recorder.
"I wanna make motor vehicle better, I wanna make sure that elections are secure, I wanna make sure it's transparent," said candidate Bobbie Gross, (R).
"I don't believe that people should have to wait hours in a government office to have mandatory services. These are citizen taxpayers that are paying our salaries and we need to be accountable to them," said candidate Tina Peters, (R).
Mesa County’s current Clerk and Recorder, Sheila Reiner has reached her term limit and is now running for Treasurer.
"I'm very familiar with the county organization, supervising staff, working collaboratively with government agencies and also partnering with community partners. And I think those relationships are important," said candidate Sheila Reiner, (R).
"What we are told verbally and subsequently given in writing are two different things. And it's caused some confusion throughout the community and maybe we've ended up with things that maybe we shouldn't have needed to get," said Michael Day, (R), who is also running for Treasurer.
