Out of control fire burns 20 acres in Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- At about 11:30 a.m. Thursday, the Lands End Fire Protection District responded to a call of a controlled burn that got out of control in the area of Kannah Creek Road and Whiting Road in Whitewater.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says fire crews were able to stop the flames from reaching any structures, and no one was injured.

The fire burned approximately 20 acres and damaged farm equipment and power lines, according to Lands End Fire. One house was evacuated in the area and one mobile home was threatened by the fire, but no one was inside.

The Grand Junction Fire Department also responded.
