Several crews respond to fire at Clifton storage facility

CLIFTON, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Clifton, Grand Junction, and Palisade fire departments were called to the 500 block of 32 ½ Road for a blaze at a storage facility.

It started around 4 p.m. Monday. Crews from Palisade, Clifton and Grand Junction responded to the fire. Clifton Fire Chief, Charles Balke, said extinguishing the fire was labor intensive because crews had to pull out everything from the storage units. They aren't sure what the extent of the damage is, but Clifton fire said more than 30 storage units were a "total loss." More units were damaged by the intense nearby heat.

Mesa County Sheriff's office, Grand Junction Fire Department and Clifton Fire are investigating the cause of the fire. Clifton Fire could not confirm the fire was suspicious, but said it is still under investigation.

Still no word yet on a cause. The storage company declined an interview.
