GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The trial for a teen accused of killing a sheriff's deputy will take place in Mesa County.
The defense motioned for a change of venue.
A judge rejected an argument by Austin Holzer's lawyers that publicity surrounding the shooting death of Deputy Derek Geer would prejudice a local jury pool. The judge said arguments presented by the defense, including polling funded by the defense, was insufficient. The judge did say things could change before the trial.
The judge said most of the media reports have simply described the facts and circumstances of the case and have generally reported those facts in a professional manner.
Holzer is due back in court on Oct. 20. His trial is scheduled to begin in January.
