GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The District 51 Foundation hosted the Grand Junction Area of Chamber of Commerce Leadership class on Thursday to show the members what goes on in the district's schools.
About a dozen Chamber members hopped on a bus and toured different schools in the area. Throughout the tours and presentations, the members learned how different schools operate.
At Orchard Mesa Middle School, 8th-grade student leaders showed them around.
"Personally the most interesting thing for me has been the amount of work put into energy conservation that the schools are doing, and the amount of money that they save us by really trying to be really good stewards with the resources they're given," said Bryan Johnson, a Chamber member.
Orchard Mesa Middle School's principal said the tours are important to build awareness in the community about the conditions schools are in.
Members also got to see the new R-5 school and presentations from Appleton Elementary and Fruits Middle School.
