GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- A School District 51 teacher and his wife are facing charges following an assault that happened in their Grand Junction home.
On Saturday night, the Grand Junction Police Department said they were called to a fight at a home in the 200 block of Hall Avenue.
When police got to the address, they said they found Darrell Simonton, 54, his wife Sheri, 55, and Traci Biehle, 50, all showing signs of 'excessive alcoholic consumption.'
According to an arrest affidavit, Sheri came home from the bar with her friend Traci. She then started accusing Darrell of having an affair.
At one point, the affidavit said Sheri hit Darrell in the face. Later, all three became involved in a fight.
Police said Sheri and Darrell were taken to jail on domestic violence charges. Biehle was cited for third-degree assault and was released.
As of Tuesday morning, Sheri and Darrell had not yet seen a judge because of the Columbus Day holiday. They had a hearing scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
A spokesperson with School District 51 in Mesa County confirmed Darell is a Physical Education teacher at Grand Junction HIgh School.
District 51 said Darrell would be able to return to his teaching position. The district said Darrell resigned as a football coach in early September from Central High School.
A spokesperson said the district is conducting an internal investigation, which is still open.
"This was a personal incident, did not involve a student, and did not happen on school property," the school district said.
