GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- UPDATE: Thursday Tanner Flores was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the shooting death of Ashley Doolittle.
The Larimer County judge added 32 years to Flores' sentence for the felony kidnapping he was charged with as well.
Original story: A jury has decided the fate of a young man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and bringing her body to Mesa County.
Tanner Flores was convicted of first-degree murder and will face a sentence of life in prison.
According to the Coloradoan in Fort Collins, Flores admitted on the stand that he shot Ashley Doolittle in June 2016, but that his actions were unintentional and unplanned, with no thought behind them.
Flores, who is now 19, shot Doolittle in Larimer County and then drove her body to Collbran.
Prosecutors in court called Flores a jealous ex-boyfriend who planned to turn the gun on himself but then changed his mind. Defense attorneys argued he wasn't fully aware of his actions.
