GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- With today’s methods of transportation, it's easy to forget about trains. But Cross Orchards Historic Site wanted to change that.
The Grand Valley Model Railroad Club held a model railroad show at Cross Orchards to show off their displays, and to preserve railroad history.
Trains of all sizes could be seen running down miniature tracks, and pulling through landscapes that took months to construct.
One historian says it’s important to pay tribute to the railroads of the old days because they played such a big role in Colorado’s history.
“The mining, back in the 1890s, and 1880s and later, created Colorado. Without the mines, there would have been no Colorado, and without the railroads, the mines would have never prospered," said Manager of Cross Orchards Historic Site, Matt Darling.
Matt also said the railroads that came in and out of Grand Junction are a major reason why the city grew so quickly.
