GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Veterans Day may have been on Saturday, but celebrations didn't end then.
In honor of Veterans Day, access to the Colorado National Monument was free on Saturday and Sunday. Usually, fees are $15 for a private car.
It was the last free day of the year. Even with the free entry, fewer than 400 visitors entered the Fruita entrance, which saw about 360 visitors on Saturday, compared to an average of about 700 to 800 visitors a day in October.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be the next time the Monument is open free of charge.
