GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Colorado Mesa University said in a press release Thursday that they will add women’s wrestling to their Division II varsity teams.

The team will begin competing in fall 2018, and will be first women’s varsity wrestling team in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, according to the press release.

CMU says a search for the inaugural head coach started Feb. 28.
Men’s wrestling head coach Chuck Pipher said, “I am thrilled for this expansion of our program and the growth of popularity of a sport I dearly love.”

Fewer than 50 other universities in the country have a varsity women’s wrestling program, the press release said.
