PALISADE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The Palisade Plunge is getting closer to reality. It would connect the Grand Mesa to Palisade.
Palisade town officials are asking the board of trustees at their meeting Tuesday night if they can submit a grant to the Federal Mineral Leasing District.
The grant would be for $50,000 and the town would match $15,000. The funding would cover the first phase of the project which would add a new loop to the Palisade Rim trail and connect to the downhill portion of the plunge.
"This trail is already so broadly advertised even internationally that we think this is economic development for the area and will help us recover from some of the downturns," said Rich Sales, the town administrator.
If the board approves the move to submit the grant and it gets approved, the town hopes to start construction sometime in the early summer.
