GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -- District 51 school board has given a final offer to their chosen, new superintendent.

The board selected Ken Haptonstall out of dozens of candidates.

Haptonstall is a CMU grad, former District 51 teacher and the current superintendent at Garfield County School District 16 in Parachute.

July first he'll hit the ground running and he already has a plan for his first 90 days.

“[I’ll be] Getting back and talking to teachers, all the support staff and community people, just really building that relationship; because strong schools, build a strong community. I believe in that and I’ve built that where I’ve been and I am looking forward to that here,” said Dr. Ken Haptonstall.

Current superintendent Steve Schultz is retiring at the end of the fiscal year.

Haptonstall's salary will be available to the public Monday when he officially signs his contract.
