GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -- The Grand Junction Visitor and Convention Bureau (VCB) held a meeting last week to discuss the future of the Grand Junction Off-Road Mountain Bike Event for 2017.

The organization Epic Rides requested $40,000 to move forward with the races planned for the coming year.

The VCB said they approved the funding request, and with that Grand Junction will remain as the host city for the biking event.

“There was an ample amount of discussion, including the importance to host an event centered in the City of Grand Junction and to have the name Grand Junction as an integral part of the event’s name to create brand awareness and recognition,” stated Grand Junction Visitor & Convention Bureau Board Chair, Brad Taylor.

Grand Junction city council will need to vote on the funding, according to VCB representatives.

The VCB hopes this is another event to keep Grand Junction nationally competitive as a mountain biking hot spot.
