Business owners want cones off Horizon Drive

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -- The Horizon Drive corridor project is almost complete. Local businesses are looking forward to getting rid of the cone zone.

Crews with the Horizon Drive project told KJCT they will open one lane Wednesday night at 6 p.m. for a 24-hour test. They plan to fully open all lanes by Friday.

Managers at Octopus Coffee said they hope the new traffic design will prompt outside visitors to stop at local businesses.

“The roundabouts look good and there is lot more pedestrian friendly features. Horizon Drive has definitely been the main exit for Grand Junction, and it seems like any improvement there are bound to improve sales in the economy in all sorts of ways,” said Bryan Collings, the co-owner of Octopus Coffee.

Officials said in addition to this project, more than $9 million has been invested in the private businesses as part of this Horizon Drive improvement district.
