Police search for teacher who ran off with student

DENVER - Colorado authorities are on the lookout for a Nebraska school teacher accused of running off with a 13-year-old student.

According to the Lexington Police Department, they were contacted about this last Thursday by school authorities.

The school had reason to believe that 25-year-old Kelsey Peterson was having some sort of relationship with 8th grader Fernando Rodriguez.

Peterson was placed on administrative leave on Thursday. Investigators tried to arrest her, but she had already taken off.

Lexington Police say that the boy's family reported him missing on Saturday and that they believe he was with the teacher.

Reports on Monday put them in Denver.

"The school found letters on the computer indicating an inappropriate relationship between the teacher and the student indicating that it wasn't a typical relationship between a student and a teacher." Paul Schwartz of the Lexington Police Department said.

They are believed to be in a white 4-door 2006 Pontiac with Nebraska plates 18-k16.

There is a felony warrant out for Peterson who is charged with kidnapping, child abuse, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
