FRUITA, Colo. (KJCT) -- Donation drives this year are taking huge hits because of the economy. But that doesn't mean these drives will just go away.
The 'Over the Edge Sports' store in Fruita holds a bike donation each holiday season: 'Bikes for Tykes.'
So far a few donations have rolled in, but they're looking for as many as possible this year. And they're coordinating it with a local group that gives to children across the western slope.
"[It's an] outreach program- Western Flyers Youth Project," said Store Manager Noah Sears. "They're kind of aimed at getting kids outside and active, getting them on bikes, and pulling them away from the TV."
Sears knows the economy has struck a bad chord with many families, but he says he hopes people can afford to give even a little bit this year.
The store accepts cash donations of any increment. Just stop by the shop in Fruita, or mail a donation in.
Their address is 202 E. Aspen St., Fruita, CO. or you could call them at (970) 858-7220.
They hope to raise at least $2,000 and build 20 bikes for local kids from toddlers to teens.
