EAST ORCHARD MESA, Colo. (KJCT) -- A big holiday shopping day is right around the corner, but some may enjoy skipping that busy day at the mall.
If you are looking for some local treats to put under the tree this year, a winery in East Orchard Mesa has an alternative for you.
Carlson Vineyards is hosting their 18th annual open house, dedicating Black Friday to slowing down and enjoying the start of the holiday season.
You can taste nine different wines from Riesling to peach. The peach wine, created with no grapes, is made from local Palisade peaches.
Owner Parker Carlson says we are in the peach capitol of the world and he wouldn't have it any other way.
"Anything we use for our fruit wines, is it is ready to eat. You wouldn't hesitate picking it up and just snacking into it. And with our peaches you would be bending over so the juice wouldn't run down your front,” Carlson said. “They are incredible."
He says people love to come walk the vines and picnic in on the grounds.
Carlson says he looks forward to next weekend not just for his own business, but for other wineries in the area that will benefit as well.
Over the course of the three-day open house, there will be wine sales, prizes, and special seasonal delicacies.
A couple of those are their cherry wine, served with chocolate, or the peach cobbler in a mug.
