GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – ‘Twi-hard’ fans, as they’re called, lined up across the country, even in Grand Junction. And it was all to see the second movie installment of the vampire story: Twilight.
Twilight: New Moon is one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year. And it's easy to see… Lines were wrapped around theaters nationwide Thursday night, including here on the Western Slope.
Twilight Pandemonium was in full force, even hours from show time. As we found out Thursday night, in addition to the story line, people are excited for other things…
“I'm very excited to see New Moon,” said Twilight Fan Morgan Sanders. “And see all of them without their clothes on."
“All of them are hot," said a teenager in line.
Because of the anticipation behind the movie, some people were willing to forego their entire day for a good spot in the theater.
"[I’ve been here since] 8 o'clock in the morning," said Twilight Fan Emilie Stickley.
"It's worth missing everything," Sanders said.
"We've been doing some homework, since were missing class," Salina Kirk, a Twilight Fan, said.
The excitement started weeks ago when the tickets were made available, and most everyone we talked with got those tickets the moment they went on sale.
"Three weeks ago," Stickley said.
"[My] Mom tried to play the trick where she got the tickets, and then said, 'oh sorry, we're not going,'" said a teenager in line.
"You're the first one to see them, then you can tell people that. And they're like, 'oh, you're cool,'" said Sanders.
And parents are also excited because they say for every $10 movie ticket sold for this movie, it means just as many kids are now reading and picking up the books
“Normally no vampire books, but this is good, the literature is elegant," Stickley said.
“Anything that gets kids reading is good," said Parent Sherry Ficklan.”
Book sales have seen a spike, and stores expect that to continue for weeks after people go and see the movie.
And these are not your average books. Because of the readability, most kids are taking just a week to finish these 400-500 page novels.
“[The book is] not a lot of trash, not a lot of swearing… It's clean," said Barnes and Noble Salesperson Heidi Pearson.
But still the debate goes forward. What team are you on?
Hundreds of people stood in line outside the Regal Cinemas 14 Theater in Grand Junction Thursday night. A lot of them were braving the cold weather for nearly 15 hours.
