GRAND JUNCTION -- If you're looking to cut back on costs and spend time with family this Christmas, the B.L.M. has the perfect combination for you, cutting your own tree.

Starting this Monday you can stop by the B.L.M. office in Grand Junction or Silt and buy a permit for only ten dollars.

Along with the permit, you'll get a map, directions, and a list of rules and regulations.

"We ask that you cut down either a pinyon pine or a juniper tree, and the juniper is what's behind me here.  And we also ask that you focus on trees that are nine feet or shorter," says erin curtis with the B.L.M. office in Grand Junction.

All trees sold are for personal use and cannot be re-sold.

One of the closest tree-cutting areas to Grand Junction is just off Highway 141 about 15 miles from Whitewater.

The B.L.M. says the areas with the best selection of pinyon pine and juniper are Gateway, Farmers Canyon, and Round Mountain.
