ATLANTA (AP) - The first federal analysis of county-by-county obesity rates shows Boulder County in Colorado is 1 of the nation's thinnest.
The analysis using 2007 data shows that less than 13 percent of people in Boulder were obese. Only about 4 percent reported diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is closely tied to obesity.
The survey published Thursday showed obesity rates were highest in counties in the Southeast and Appalachia. Some counties in Alabama and Mississippi reported more than 40 percent were obese.
Denver County had an age-adjusted obesity rate of about 16.3 percent.
