GRAND JUNCTION (KJCT)- To fight the affects of the economy this holiday season, more money is being put into downtown enticements.
City officials hope the additional funds in holiday amenities will bring more shoppers to main street. This year free carriage rides and music are being added to the weekends besides the usual decorations.
City officials say this year new attractions are needed to increase traffic to area.
"This was not the time to cut back on my advertising and if at all possible to actually spend a little bit more. So that's what we're doing. We're spending more on our events. We're spending more on our holiday advertising. We know that some of the merchants have cut back on their advertising so i'm doing everything i can to get the word out. Our local shops, our local restaurants and we really hope that people will remember that," says Kathy Dirks with the Downtown Partnership.
Many downtown businesses said they're business is still going strong. But they wouldn't mind a little extra revenue during the holiday shopping. This years christmas tree has been delivered and is going to be put up later this week.
