Home owner finds intruder making himself at home

Posted: Updated:

GOLDEN, Colo. (KJCT) -- Imagine coming home and finding a strange man walking around your house wearing nothing but your underwear.

That happened to Dave Strickland who has his house for sale in Golden.

Police arrested 24-year-old Timothy Gonzales and say they have never seen anything like this before.

They say Gonzales spent the day in the house, taking a shower, doing laundry and even putting beer in the refrigerator.

That is, until the man of the house returned home.

"This guy started ranting about him being the owner and that he was going to come here and kick me out of the house," said Strickland.

"I was near where I keep my firearms so I prepared to have  to  defend myself.”

Strickland fired a warning shot and called police.

Police say there weren't any signs of forced entry and they think Gonzales somehow opened the realtor's lock box outside the home.

Strickland says he probably will take the home off the market for a month or so until the publicity surrounding the bizarre crime dies down.
