GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -- Reaction to Monday night's decision by the Grand Junction City Council to stop any new marijuana dispensaries from setting up shop.
The city will not review any development applications and sales licenses for medical marijuana businesses for at least 12 months.
That's just fine for one local marijuana business owner we talked to.
He says right now there are already about 20 dispensaries in the city of Grand Junction.
"Were all about competition,” said Dustin Higgins, owner of Nature’s Medicine. “Some competition is good, but the amount of dispensaries that are coming in are stifling.”
Meanwhile Governor Bill Ritter wants all marijuana dispensaries to pay state sales tax.
Some in the state treat it like prescription drugs and do not pay any taxes.
Higgins, although, says he and others have been paying city, county and state sales tax since they've been open.
