This past weekend, officers from the Colorado State Liquor Enforcement Agency, Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Sheriff’s Office conducted 186 compliance checks for the sale of alcohol to underage people. Twenty-four establishments failed.
The compliance checks were done throughout Mesa County at liquor stores, restaurants and wineries. The operation used underage operatives who tried to buy alcohol. They were supervised closely by officers.
Authorities hold these types of operations periodically to test local businesses. Officials say they usually see between 10 and 19 percent failure on each compliance check.
This is the third time in 2009 that compliance checks have been done in Mesa County by this group. Two similar operations were done in April. There were eight failures the first time and zero failures the second time. However, officials say they want to see 100% compliance by businesses all the time.
During this sting, all employees involved in the sale were cited. Here's is a list of all of the local businesses cited during the crackdown.
