DENVER (AP) - A Paonia man faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of a 29-year-old coal miner in 1981.
Jefferson County sheriff's spokeswoman Jacki Kelley says 57-year-old Christopher Sorensen made his first court appearance Thursday. Kelley says he is suspected of killing his acquaintance Anthony Yanish, also of Paonia.
Kelley says Yanish's body was found by a jogger in Jefferson County on March 10, 1981.
At the time, Yanish was taking a few days off from work in Somerset due to a work stoppage protesting cutbacks in black lung disease benefits. He was last seen in Glenwood Springs.
Kelley says the arrest warrant affidavit for Sorensen has been sealed. She says the arrest came after investigators received a tip earlier this year.
