Trinidad moves toward ban on medical marijuana

Associated Press - November 10, 2009 2:44 PM ET

TRINIDAD, Colo. (AP) - Trinidad's city council has given preliminary approval to an ordinance banning medical marijuana dispensaries inside city limits.

City Manager Jim Soltis says the council unanimously approved the ordinance on its first reading Monday. A final vote is set Nov. 17.

Mayor Pro-Tem Liz Aragon says state law is too vague on regulating dispensaries and that allowing them in Trinidad would conflict with federal laws outlawing distribution of a controlled substance.
