DENVER (AP) - Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter is laying out his plan to cut the state budget.
On Wednesday, the governor is telling state lawmakers how he will cut an additional $280 million by next June.
Ritter says the global economic downturn is continuing to affect state government. Over the past year, the recession has forced state government to close a $1.8 billion budget shortfall.
On Tuesday, the governor said he ordered state employees to take four more unpaid furlough days, on top of 4 furlough days that workers already are taking, in an effort to save money.
Ritter says that the eight closure days will save about $27.2 million in the 2009-10 fiscal year, which started July 1 and ends June 30.
