CLIFTON, Colo. (KJCT) -- Hundreds of Grand Valley residents were learning more about the possible fate of their properties Wednesday night.
That's when the first of three community meetings about annexing Clifton and Fruitvale into Grand Junction was held at Grand Mesa Middle School.
Most people attending say they were there to learn about the effects this annexation could have. While many listened, some were unhappy with the progress and concerned about any ramifications.
One resident we spoke with says while Clifton and Fruitvale are fine now, the infrastructure is set to crumble. He says something needs to be done, despite not seeing the effects right away.
"We're okay now, we'll be okay tomorrow," said Clifton Governance Committee Member Carroll Aamold. "But, this process will take at least two years to see anything come out of it."
Aamold said some of the positive impacts include more funding, better roads, and possibly a police branch.
County commissioners say a decision on phase one of the plan - land north of Patterson Road - is most likely six months away. They say phase two and three could be years away.
Residents will have a chance to vote on the annexation on a house by house vote.
Additional meetings are scheduled later this month. Tuesday, October 13th, the second meeting will be held at Clifton Elementary School (3276 F Road). Thursday, October 15th, the third meeting will be held at Clifton Community Hall (126 second street). Both meetings will start at 6:00 p.m. and last until 8:00 p.m.
The County Commissioners Office is planning on holding a tele-town hall meeting. That meeting date and time is yet to be determined.
