GRAND JUNCTION (KJCT)--Friday will mark 8 years since the attack on the World Trade Center, as well as the pentagon and the hijacking of flight 93. Many of you remember where you were when you learned of the terrifying news. It's that memory that lead to the creation of the 9-11 memorial now standing in downtown Grand Junction, at the corner of 7th Street and Main Street.
The sculpture entitled "Remember" was created by local artist, Pat Olsen. It has been given purposefully to the community. Grand Junction as a place for people to remember, reflect, and respect those who sacrificed.
"I would really like them to think of what was going on with the people that are still alive," Olsen says.
The Twin Towers are present in the blue portions. Friday, a pentagon shaped marble bench will be installed to remember those who lost their lives in Washington D.C. Soon actual pieces from the World Trade Center and Pentagon will arrive and be installed with the sculpture.
Cumulus Broadcasting led the fundraising efforts for the sculpture and the Downtown Development Authority matched the $4,500 raised.
