Although they're hundreds of miles from the devastation in Colorado Springs, a group of folks here is doing what it can to make sure those animals have enough to eat. Some of the horses impacted by the Black Forest fire are returning to their homes, but there's nothing there to feed them. A lot of hay has burned or been used up. The desperate need for more has these volunteers loading hundreds of bales onto trailers. They’ll be trekking them to Colorado Springs and say as long as there's a need, they'll continue to give. Organizer Jennifer Quigley says, “I just want people to recognize the fact that the fires are 70-percent controlled but that people's homes are burnt to the ground, their animals are still displaced, and they have no hay.” Several local farmers are donating hay; others are giving money or volunteering to drive it to Colorado Springs. Hundreds of bales from the Western Slope have already been delivered to the Black Forest area for distribution. Still, volunteers say more help is needed.
